Artistic & Musical

Art and Music play such an important role in developing a wide range of skills and abilities and all children are able to participate in some sort of art-making or musical activity. By doing so, they will feel an enormous sense of accomplishment and increased self-esteem, as well as learning valuable skills. Just remember to match the activity to your child's skills level so that they will enjoy themselves.

A variety of textured materials and activities where a child can feel their creations as they are being made is especially beneficial for visually impaired children as well as those who have autism or limited fine motor control.

If your child is hearing impaired, expose them to musical instruments where they can "feel" the music. For instance, allow them to experience the wind that blows from a whistle or the vibrations of a guitar string or drum head. Children with down syndrome and autism / ASD also respond especially well to music.
