Emotions and Social Development
Often children with special needs have trouble with social interactions and dealing with their emotions. Toys that can become a child's 'friend' and toys that can help them express and understand their emotions can help them learn how to interact effectively with others. Toys that encourage turn taking, sharing and communication are also very important.
Toys that can assist in social and emotional development include: soft and huggable toys, dolls and play sets, dress up clothes, puppets, simple games that can be played with friends and toys that encourage role playing.
